Upcoming Programs

The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County (TLC) holds educational programs year-round at our four nature preserves, and one sister-preserve.

All programs run rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, TLC will announce updates via Facebook, Twitter, and our website. All programs are non-refundable.

Free Time Adventures in Nature

Tuesdays, August 5th, 12th and 19th AND Thursdays, August 7th, 14th and 21st from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Location: Bucktoe Creek Preserve (432 Sharp Road, Avondale, PA).

Looking for an interactive outdoor nature activity for your children before school begins? Join us for six days of fun in the sun at Bucktoe Creek Preserve. Each nature walk through the preserve will involve an activity such as letterboxing, salamander searches, skipping stones and a special adventure to the Delaware Steam Car Museum on Thursday August 14th! Please pack a lunch and drop-off promptly at 10:00 a.m. Snacks/drinks provided. Register ASAP – limited spots available.

Warm Season Grass Walk

Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Location: Bucktoe Creek Preserve (432 Sharp Road, Avondale, PA 19311).

By creating a yard with vegetation that offers food and cover, you can create a refuge for several wildlife species! Switchgrass & big bluestem are just two of the grasses we’ll identify, characterize for your own interest, and understand their role in the ecosystem. Botanist, Janet Ebert, will be leading the hike through class I meadows of Bucktoe. $10 TLC members; $15 non-members. Click here to register!

Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Location: New Leaf Eco Center (776 Rosedale Road, Kennett Square, PA).

Join TLC apiarist, Dan Borkoski, for an inside look at the busy buzzy world of honeybees. Participants will get a close-up look at a hive during routine inspection while gaining practical beekeeping knowledge. Don’t miss this great opportunity for non-beekeepers, prospective beekeepers, and new beekeepers interested in seeing another apiary. Protective veils will be available. Wild Foraging Series: Edible Plants

Lee Peterson, author of the “Peterson Field Guide to Wild Edible Plants of Eastern/Central America,” will be leading the third and final forage of the year in search for wild edible plants at the Bucktoe Creek Preserve.
