Barnard’s Orchard is officially protected in perpetuity with the signing of the paperwork. Thank you to everyone in the community who came together to support the conservation
of this wonderful property. We would like to give a giant THANK YOU to all of those who donated or pledged gifts and spread the word. We could not have completed this project without YOU! Additional funds were received from the Federal Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, the Chester County Agricultural Land Preservation Board, and the Marmot Foundation. Much gratitude to everyone who helped ensure Barnard’s Orchard will remain in active agriculture in perpetuity!
The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County (TLC) worked with the Barnard family to place an agricultural conservation easement on the family property, established in 1862 and long serving the community via its orchard and farm store. Conserving the property now will ensure that the lands remain in active agriculture in perpetuity and eliminate the possibility of future development.
For every farm like Barnard’s Orchard, there are at least three more currently under threat of development. Now is your chance to help change the conversation from “Such a shame – I remember what that used to look like before it was developed” to “I remember when the community came together to save that land!”
Keep the movement going to support local farms for future generations through TLC’s Funds for Farms!
